Installing Dampers Near Flex DuctOne of the primary features of flex duct installations is that, when installed properly, they are virtually leak free. This is important because roughly 50% of a buildings utility usage can be attributed to the HVAC system. Of that 50%, typically 25% of the energy (and money!) is wasted through duct system energy loss. For this reason and others it’s important to maintain a sealed system. Unfortunately the core of flex duct is susceptible to ripping and tearing when exposed to sharp metal or moving surfaces, both of which may be present when installing dampers into collars where flex duct is installed.
